Eco Beauty Products From Your Favorite Brands

I hate to beg so I won’t. I’ll just suggest that you look deep into your makeup bag and do what Spike Lee says, “Do the Right Thing.” You won’t regret it.

While I spent 2 ½ hours at the car wash getting my trusty ride waxed and pretty a few weekends ago, I marveled at how when the sun comes out, cute men arrive en masse. Yesterday was no exception, but I digress. A girl can fantasize can’t she?

And so reality hit. After the car wash, I headed over to Earth Day 2009’s 2nd Annual Go Green Expo at the New York Hilton Hotel to check out eco beauty products from your favorite brands. Along with environmentally-safe clothing, accessories and jewelry that were on hand for my perusal, but, my focus was of course on their Organic beauty products. As expected, I was drawn to the usual suspects like JR Watkins Health and Beauty Aids which have been selling their products at major retailers for over 100 years.

I think that we get so caught up in our daily lives that adding one more thing to our to-do list like helping the environment just might put us over the edge, but don’t fret. I can help. I learned at the expo about this newly-launched website called www.greenthology.com. It’s a one-stop shopping marketplace for health, beauty and fashion, gifts, kids products and so much more if you’re short on time. So don’t worry, no additional footwork is necessary. You’re only a click away from doing your part. Just look at Grammy award winning performing artist Mary J. Blige. She’s one the faces of the Carol’s Daughter and an early supporter of the use of natural products.  And even past American Idol hopeful Syesha Mercado is doing her part as a plastic bag recycler. Every little bit helps.

I shouldn’t have been surprised when the lipgloss I’ve been using as of late called Green Glam Gloss Green Tea SPF 15 (which you can buy at Sephora) showed up on a segment of an NBC morning show. I guess good green taste should be shared with the masses which is why I love doing this blog. It really moisturizes my lips, but, moreover, the packaging is biodegradable which means that it doesn’t hurt the environment and won’t put a dent in your pocketbook since it only costs $9.

Even Kiehl’s since 1851 has gotten into the green action (although they’ve been around much longer than the green movement) with a product called Superbly Restorative Argan Body Cleansing Oil. It is made with 100% Morroccan Oil and does two important things for me: soothes my skin and frees my skin of ash. You know what I’m talking about ladies. Oh, and there is one more added bonus. It smells absolutely divine.
