Coolsculpting – Is It All Hype? My Journey

Don’t change the page! What you see is an actual Coolsculpting treatment being performed on moi. When working out and eating right just hasn’t worked to melt the fat from your flanks or any other body part that you’re little embarrassed by, it’s time to consider freezing your fat with this revolutionary cure for the meaty which requires no-downtime and no needles, but maybe a strong stomach.

The 411

CoolSculpting is a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) cleared, non-invasive procedure that gently cools unwanted fat cells on the areas of your body where you want to lose inches by freezing fat cells in those specified area(s) to prompt controlled elimination of fat cells in the body. In other words, once the fat is frozen, your body metabolizes it and it’s excreted over time with results appearing in as little three months from the date of treatment.

Before and afters of any type beauty treatment are always important, but what about the journey to getting to that after is what I’m razor-focused on.

My Journey

Never once have I cared to have larger breasts – it’s always been about thinner thighs from birth, so when the opportunity came – courtesy of the Dr. Jaqueline Fulop-Goodling’s team at Just Melt Spa in New York City to freeze my own fat, I knew what body part would get it – my thighs no less.

My consultation yielded three areas that would benefit from a treatment, which are really called cycles. After settling on my healthy inner-thigh area which would require two-one hour long cycles, March 26th was the scheduled date of my treatment. I was told to wear loose clothing and to bring something to read or if I preferred to just take a nap during.

At the start of the treatment, measurements and pictures were taken. On the treatment bed I was warned to not move, otherwise, the paddle that was to be suctioned to my left thigh first would disconnect and I’d lose the hour cycle. As a person who has a low tolerance for pain, I gasped for my breath as a section of my inner thigh was being sucked into this machine and for at least 30 seconds I was in pain, but after the initial shock wore off, I was numb. I then laid back and let the machine take me to task as I returned emails. Throughout the treatment, the technician returned to check on me. Once my first cycle was completed, the paddle was removed with no discomfort since I was numb.

With the knowledge that I have a weak stomach, the technician told me not to look down because she couldn’t guarantee a good reaction to seeing my fat frozen in the shape of a brick…so gross, but it’s all in the name of beauty. Once I got used to the visual, the surgical glove-wearin’ tech began to massage the frozen fat, flat. The moment she put pressure on my leg I could feel something popping – my fat, of course. Again, eewwww.

After the treatment was repeated on the other leg, I stood up without a care in the world because now both inner thighs were numb. It wouldn’t be until three day later that I would want to amputate my own legs. Check out a snippet of my Coolsculpting journal…

March 26: Treatment Day
March 29:  Thighs are killing me – feels like pins sticking me and they itch, but I’m afraid to scratch. Went to gym, thought I should  to help my new look along. Drank even more water than usual. Measured thighs, why? it’s too early.
March 30: Hurts to walk. Feeling effects of treatment and workout from day before.
3rd week of April: The pain has finally disappeared.
May 5:  Five weeks later and I can do virtual splits now. I will measure my thighs at the end of month 2, but visually, they look better and a tad slimmer already.
