Go From Day to Night With The Right Lipstick Color
What a difference a lipstick makes. The right colors can take you from day to night in an instant…just look at True Blood star, Rutina Wesley. The choice to go with a taupey brown lipstick (along with neutral eyes) kept her makeup looking simple yet pulled together – not exactly the right shade for a night time soiree, but pretty just the same. What’s nice about Bobbi Brown’s Basics Lip Palette ($40, barneys.com) is that it includes two high-shine glosses (Naked & Posey Shimmer) and two lipsticks (Brownie & Rum Raisin) that lets you create a custom color or wear the individual shades as-is and still knock ‘em dead!
Now, what is appropriate for a shindig after sundown is a bright, bold lip color and Rutina looks great wearing this punchy red (appears to be orange-based) shade and Make Up Forever Rouge Artist Intense #42, Satin Vermillion Red ($19, sephora.com), a highly-pigmented, long-lasting, rich-colored lipstick can deliver a similar result for you. But if you’re not sure that this lipstick is the perfect red for you, then read TREND WATCH: Red Lips to help you nail down the proper color.
And from Freya Skincare comes a gentle, non-drying makeup remover called Arctic Cleansing Water ($45, freyaskincare.com) that wipes away all remnants of makeup that doesn’t involve using water. To use: dispense onto a cotton ball or pad and remove makeup from the entire face and neck.
Here’s a little trivia for ya…companies like the Estee Lauder Companies saw a spike in lipstick sales after the terrorist attacks in 2001 according to chairman, Leonard Lauder. Lauder said that in an unstable economy (just after the tragedy), “sales [of lipstick] are increased as women boost their mood with inexpensive lipstick purchases instead of $500 slingbacks.”
Hue Knew that lipstick had that much power, but it isn’t surprising. Go figure, a $9 lipgloss has always done wonders for my mood.
Hue Knew It? I did.
