3 Fashion Week Beauty Trends You Have To Try

You don’t have to wait until next spring to wear some of the looks seen on this year’s runways. Even though Fashion Week is on hiatus until the next go ‘round, I’m still inspired by some of the looks that got my attention. Specifically, there are three Fashion Week beauty trends that you have to try. Maybe you, too, will feel inspired to broaden your color palette. Who knows, you might even like the new, sexier you.

While not everyone can wear all the beauty looks seen on the catwalk, you can choose one product that highlights your best feature (eyes, lips, cheeks) by purchasing one standout product. Models at the Spring/Summer 2010 Isaac Mizrahi fashion show impressed me with the bright coral lip color they so elegantly sported down the runway. Coral is a warm color and is best used on people with gold and yellow undertones. My pick: MAC Dazzleglass Creme ($18, nordstrom.com). This product gives you the smoothness of a creme lipstick coupled with the added bling of a lipgloss. Oh, how I love gloss.

Are you bold enough to wear liquid gold eyeliner as seen in the Agua De Coco fashion show from Sao Paolo’s Fashion Week earlier this year? When I saw this, I knew immediately that Urban Decay had a product called Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner in Bronze Glitter ($18, ulta.com) that produces this same result. Go ahead and release your inner rocker-chick – a night of debauchery awaits you. First, start by drawing a solid line (or dash marks if it’s easier) in the center of the upper lash line and follow the natural curve of your eye. If you started with dash marks, then fill in the gaps. Make a thicker line by gradually building the line. For an even edgier look, extend the wing tip.

What stood out to me in Forum Tufi Duek’s fashion show (also during Sao Paolo’s Fashion Week) were the model’s cheeks – simply beautiful. To get sculptured cheeks like these women, you’d either need to be born with defined cheekbones (which I’m certainly not) or buy a blush that helps define them. I suggest ModelCo Blush Lights in Peach Bellini ($28, qvc.com). I like this blush because the micronized colour pigments helps it glide on smoothly, offering a suede-like finish. You can wear it alone or over foundation and build the layers for more intensity. Refer to my post, Janelle Monae’s Fashion Night Out to get my how-to on applying blush. To add another dimension, I’d use Lorac TANtalizer Baked Bronzer ($30, ulta.com), initially written about in my post Drama Queen. Just lightly apply the bronzer on top of your already applied blush. And there you have it – sunkissed cheeks!

Here are more tips to make you look catwalk-ready:

Tip 1: One feature at a time. If you wear a bright lip color, then go easy on the eye makeup. You don’t want your features fighting for attention.

Tip 2: Even things out. If you have two-tone lips, pat a little foundation on your lips to even the color. Afterwards, apply your lipstick. The color will appear more even and stay on longer.

Tip 3: Get the most out of liquid eyeliner. Use a deep shade as your eyeliner and use a light, bright shade as a highlighter on the inner corners.

Hue Knew It? I did.
